After the identity of the driver of the vehicle that fell into an abyss at the San Pacho viewpoint, near the Salto del Tequendama, at dawn on Wednesday, September 21, was known, more details about one of the protagonists of the tragedy have been known. .
Gerardo Lino Segura Franco. 47 years. Original from San Antonio de Tequendama. That is the identity of the driver of the vehicle with RMW 778 license plates, red in color and registered in Bogotá in the name of Luisa Fernanda Méndez Cruz, who fell into the abyss around 1:30 am at kilometer 8 + 500 of the road that leads from Bogotá to Mesitas del Colegio.
One of his relatives, in dialogue with the newspaper El Tiempo, assured that Segura Franco was returning, at the time of the accident, from visiting his wife and two children in Soacha, where they live because of the women’s work and the study of the minors.
“He left there at midnight to return to his house, they have a farm in Santandercito and they are lifelong people here in San Antonio del Tequendama. The wife went to live in Soacha because it was very difficult for her to get to his work in Bogotá, so he went to visit them almost every day, ”said a relative of Segura Franco to El Tiempo.
Faced with the indications that his relative had committed suicide and that he presented a depressive picture, he discarded them and dismissed this hypothesis.
“I think if he had problems we would have noticed. He spoke with the brother the night before and was excited about several events scheduled for the weekend. It is not true that he suffered from depression as some have said, ”warned the relative of Segura Franco.
He even added that his relative “tomorrow I was going to be 48 years old”, so his family had already prepared several celebrations for this coming weekend.
For the relative of Segura Franco, one of the possible causes of the road accident, since he does not believe it was a suicide, is that Gerardo was driving very fast, according to what he told El Tiempo that some workers in the area pointed out to him.
This is consistent with one of the findings that the Soacha Transit and Transportation Police found at the scene of the accident.
“On the site we did not find traces of braking. It is a vehicle that in the early hours of the morning… a man, an inhabitant here, a merchant in the sector, apparently makes the decision or loses consciousness, falls asleep…”, said Lieutenant Jairo Hernán Murcia, Chief of Soacha Transit and Transportation sectional.
This contrasts with the version that Lieutenant Cristian Quiroga, commander of the San Antonio de Tequendama Fire Department, gave to Blu Radio, in which he stated that, according to witnesses, the driver of the car would have reversed and taken momentum to jump into the void. .
“There are two witnesses who indicate that the vehicle reversed, gained momentum and went out into the void,” Quiroga told the station.
It is worth noting that, until the moment this note is published, the identity of the person who was with Segura Franco in the vehicle and who had also died in the mysterious accident is still unknown.
