A theme that has now become mainstream for weeks. The energy price increases are causing enormous problems also in Italy. A much debated topic at national and local level, the subject of the press conference convened by the Five Star Movement, in the hall of the province of Terni. Thomas De Luca (regional councilor) spoke; Luca Simonetti and Federico Pasculli (municipal councilors).
Price increases and possible solution: “There is an obligation to review the legislation on hydroelectricity” begins Thomas De Luca who adds: “We are late, in this sense, in Umbria. At stake is a regional law already pre-adopted by the junta that must pass in commission and then in the classroom. By unlocking the process, around 500 euros could be allocated per family, going to take the resources related to extra-profits. It would therefore be an energy pact for Umbria that could give relief to our fellow citizens. While the multinationals are making cascades of earnings, we find ourselves in a dramatic situation. For example, for the Marmore waterfall, before Enel, management was entrusted to Erg. There has been, in the last year, a really frightening amount of earnings, of net profit. Let’s imagine what could happen in the current year. We therefore want action to be taken and we will file a motion in the next council. The total figure is around 27 million and if divided it would involve an amount of about 500 euros per family. At the moment – adds De Luca – we are witnessing mere propaganda by President Tesei ”.
A formula also reaffirmed by Luca Simonetti: “Unblock the regional law on hydroelectric fees and give Umbrian citizens the opportunity to defend themselves from expensive bills. The other regions are moving in this direction, trying to fight this dramatic crisis. I cite the examples of Basilicata and Campania. In Umbria, however, everything is at a standstill. The paradoxical aspect – says the city councilor – is that in the election campaign this issue was not taken into consideration by anyone, when it would be enough to unblock the process to allow Umbrian families to benefit from this amount. The proposal passed to the examination of the Council of local autonomies and of the Municipal Council of Terni which had also produced an act. From that pronouncement it literally disappeared. We are therefore in a crisis with a voiceless governor, despite having the operational tools to give relief to people. And even the mayor is silent. In the major themes they are always absent ”.
Finally Federico Pasculli who broadened the horizon at a national level: “In the immediate future, the only possible solution is budgetary variance and President Conte has been saying this for months. An epochal emergency that finds us uncovered. Portugal, for example, abandoned fossil fuels in March 2022, reaching self-supply with photovoltaics ”.
