White Noise by Noah Baumbach: the film review

Terrible and exhilarating, poetic and absurd, ordinary and apocalyptic, White Noise dramatizes the attempts of a modern american family to face i trivial conflicts of everyday life and at the same time understand the universal mysteries of love, death and happiness in a world full of uncertainty. In Don DeLillo’s novel, the protagonist’s life is turned upside down by a lethal and toxic cloud in the air that represents all the various harmful events in the home. The radio, the microwave oven, the noise pollution that comes from the TV on, feed the fear of the death of Jack and his fourth wife Babette.

The new trailer of White Noise reveals some new images of the family hero engaged in some misadventures. An event disrupts the peaceful community in which they live and the various characters involved go from a nervous breakdown to arguments and existential and practical problems during a journey. Along the way they also experience unexpected encounters that affect their adventure for better or for worse. “It tells how, in our attempts not to face our own mortality, to actually acknowledge death seriously in our culture, we have somehow sublimated death into our entertainment. By hiding in death and horror, you are somehow protected” said Baumbach who also thanked Netflix for the support needed to make the film.
