The education sector, since March 2020, the year in which we began the ordeal of COVID-19, has been marked by a greater sensitivity of the population regarding the needs, advances and results of this field of knowledge in the country. . Without a doubt, we can affirm that society progressively becomes a watchful, acute, questioning and firm structure. It is no secret to anyone that concealment, lies and compromises are already difficult in the Ministry of Education of the Dominican Republic. This is a milestone that requires celebration and exquisite care so that no one steps back in this order. It is time to show that the public has mourners and is built on the basis of law and respect for institutions. Dominican society admits no more surprises. Officials who assume a service in the indicated Ministry must be aware of the position that a large sector of society has, in the face of educational fraud and in the face of the insatiable desire to be president of the Republic with State money, which is a money forged with the work of the people. In recent decades, we have observed this phenomenon with astonishment. The appointed officials lose their balance and begin to organize the squad of comrades who facilitate the creation of the symbolism and columns necessary to make the leap to the presidential goal. Now, they will find, more and more, a solid social wall against banalities that attack education in the economic, political order and, especially, in relation to integral human development and institutionality.
In this context, the new school year is an opportunity for everyone. The beneficiaries are not only the students, but also the diversity of actors and sectors that make up Dominican society have the opportunity to learn and relearn. Likewise, they have space to contribute significantly to the transformation of the Dominican educational system. The change required by the educational system is structural; therefore, we are talking about a complex and very long-term task. Despite this, it is time to start thinking and designing strategies that gradually bring us closer to the changes demanded by education in the country. We all have the opportunity to contribute. Some contribute from their specific knowledge by putting it in interaction with that of others who work for the same cause. Others put their experience at the service of a necessary cause at the present time. In society, we are going to find people who are not up to the task of moving in this direction. Those who act in this way may consider that everything is fine. Others may think that the development of any effort is not their responsibility. We have to convince the latter of the country’s need for educational, socioeconomic and political development at the global level. If so, we all need to get involved. Input from students, teachers, and families is critical. These singular actors of the educational system are necessary, if we want to introduce substantive modifications in it. In addition, Higher Education institutions, civil society organizations, committed to an education that guarantees significant learning, must establish alliances aimed at deep and not superficial changes. With this same determination, conscientious businessmen and responsible politicians must be organized. The latter are few; but a minority of this class with a co-responsible position can give an exponential boost to a movement that intends to reverse, in a reasonable long term, the current educational system. We opt for a reasoned and systemic action to rebuild it, since it does not respond to the needs of the country, the region and the global sphere. It is a worn out system that multiplies the deficits of integral and quality human-social development. The country demands an educational system that guarantees versatile and meaningful learning. I invite you to think in this direction for a real boost to national education. Let’s start actions with vision and hopeful thinking. In this task, fatigue has no place. Let’s keep going!
