The Strasbourg Christmas market will welcome two distinguished guests for its 2022 edition. The group of opera singers, Les Stentors and the artist Pascal Vecca will be the sponsors of the illuminations which will be held on Place Kléber on November 25.
The magic of the end of the year celebrations is approaching, and so is the good news. The Strasbourg Christmas market unveiled, this Thursday, November 17, the names of the sponsors of the 2022 edition. The management of the Vitrines de Strasbourg has appointed The Stentors group and the Alsatian singer Pascal Vecca to launch the illuminations on November 25 from 6 p.m. at the Porte des Lumières, rue du Vieux-Marché-aux-Poissons.
The group composed of tenors Mowgli Laps and Mathieu Sempéré and baritone Vianney Guyonnet will come to present their latest album named “10 years of love“. They will also perform on several French stages during their tour.
The novelty of this year will be located around the square Louise Weiss and the place Broglie, where the Strasbourg municipality could, according to our information, initiate other inauguration points. As a result, the traditional stroll through the City and the Showcases of Strasbourg will not take place, according to its president Gwenn Bauer.
After the illumination of the big Christmas tree, which will take place at 7 p.m. on Place Kleber in the presence of the sponsors, a tribute will be paid to the former director of the Showcases, who died at the age of 71 last September. For the occasion, the officials will go to Place Gutenberg in front of the unmissable Blue Tree.
Last year, it was the tenor Amaury Vassili, former representative of France at Eurovision in 2011, who launched the market illuminations. He then presented his new album named “We love Christmas“. He succeeded other prestigious artists such as Chimène Badi in 2019, Jeane Manson in 2018, Christophe Willem in 2017 or the Canadian Natasha St-Pier who had made the trip to Strasbourg in 2016.
A few days after the inauguration of the 2022 edition of the Christmas market, another star, and not the least, will come to say hello to his hometown. M.Pokora will be at a signing session in Strasbourg, Tuesday November 29, on the occasion of the release of his new album “Épicentre”.
He will then pay tribute to his great friend Pierre Bardet. The former decorator of the Robertsau had been at the initiative of several major events in Strasbourg, such as the big sale and the Harvest Festival. He had become, over the years, an emblematic figure of the Christmas market in the Alsatian capital.
When his death was announced, the 36-year-old singer thanked him on social media: “Thank you for everything you have done for us, for my family and my beloved city“, he wrote on Instagram, “Pierre was one of the major players when it came to keeping the magic of Christmas alive each year in the streets of Strasbourg and to amaze young and old alike.“.
There is no doubt that the Christmas market should delight the two million visitors expected this year. Indeed, the health restrictions have been lifted and everyone will be able to move around and eat around the 314 chalets which will be scattered in several places on the Big Island. The annual Strasbourg event will be held from November 25 to December 24.
With soaring energy prices, the market will only be open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., including weekends. Regarding the illuminations, the town hall has opted for a reduction of around 20% of the light decorations. The Quai des Bateliers will be particularly affected, as will the colored light spots, located on Place d’Austerlitz, which will be removed. The stated objective is to reduce electricity consumption by 10% over the duration of the event.
The large fir tree will also demonstrate energy sobriety. It will be illuminated every evening from 4 p.m. to 11 p.m. The LED lights will then be dimmed until 1 a.m. before being completely turned off.
